Manabu, who is an internationally-recognized botanical painter, was born in Tokyo and moved to the U.S. as a young man to attend the Pratt Institute in New York. After graduating, he became a U.S. citizen. Since then, Manabu's paintings and illustrations have been featured in 19 books and numerous magazine articles. He has had more than 40 art shows at galleries, museums, and botanical gardens.
